Job Description Job Title: Deputy Nursery Manager Location: YMCA St. James’s Road Nursery Responsible to: Nursery Manager Working Hours: 40 hours a week Annual Leave: 25 days, plus statutory bank holidays Remuneration: £13.22 per hour Location Background: YMCA St James’s Road Nursery is located near Dudley town centre, and offers a homely and caring environment for children aged 6 weeks-5 years. We can offer day care places for up to 100 children in flexible sessions, all year round, between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday-Friday. We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and passionate deputy manager to support them in delivering an exceptional service to the local community. Motivated by the desire to help children develop, you will be part of a team providing and maintaining high quality education and care for children from birth to 5 years. 2. The post holder will provide a warm and welcoming environment within the Nursery where young children and their families can feel valued and obtain positive help and support. 3. Part of the Nursery management team you will provide leadership within the setting, setting a positive example to childcare practitioners, and working closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure good practice. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. To offer support and guidance to parents/carers enabling them to extend their own skills, and by boosting their confidence and self-esteem, ensure the emotional well-being of their child. 2. To share responsibility for the display and maintenance of a safe, stimulating, interactive, learning environment in the Nursery. 3. To work within the guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted Regulations and assist in the planning, preparation and delivery of an effective programme of age-appropriate activities to help babies and young children to develop as individual learners. 4. To provide stimulating learning experiences enabling young children to grow in confidence and independence. 5. To share responsibility for the observation, assessment, monitoring and record keeping of children’s learning and development using a variety of methods. 6. To record these observations and produce individual profiles for each child in your care. 7. To share responsibility for providing full access to an effective programme of activities for children identified as requiring additional support. 8. To participate in staff meetings. 9. To work, as directed by the Nursery Manager, on a rota basis to ensure sufficient management cover is maintained at all times within the Nursery. 10. To liaise with Nursery parents and carers, maintaining a professional demeanour at all times, and inspiring confidence in the Nursery. 11. To collect Nursery fees and chase for payments and arrears as required. 12. To provide cover for practitioners, room leaders and managers within the team as necessary. 13. To work in partnership with other professionals involved with the children and their families, i.e. health visitors, teachers, Sure Start workers, speech therapists. 14. To assist with the supervision and training of students and junior staff. 15. To care for sick children and those suffering minor injury. 16. To be familiar with the fire drill and procedures for the safety of the children. 17. To assist with checking equipment for safety and suitability to use and preparing resources as appropriate. 18. Responsible for ensuring the room and the nursery is cleaned at the end of each day. 19. To follow the Association’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedure in dealing with any child protection issues and concerns that may arise within the nursery setting. 20. To access personal and curriculum development/ training opportunities. 21. To undertake duties in such a way that ensures a positive multi-cultural approval and with full regard for the principles and policies in place at the YMCA and comply with the Equal Opportunities & Diversity Policy and Child Protection Procedures within the organisation. 22. Operate within YMCA policies and procedures, ensuring that the health & safety of colleagues, parents/carers and yourself is maintained at all times. 23. Person Specification Deputy Nursery Manager Experience / Qualifications Essential Desirable Level three childcare qualification – NNEB, BTEC, NVQ3, or similar √ Evidence of success in a leadership position within a childcare setting. √ Experience of working in a culturally diverse area and a commitment to equal opportunities in the workplace which creates a welcoming environment for people of all faiths and of none. √ Skills / Knowledge Detailed knowledge and understanding of Ofsted Standards. √ Detailed knowledge and clear understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. √ Ability to plan, implement and evaluation age appropriate learning opportunities √ Clear and demonstrable leadership skills √ Excellent customer care skills. √ Excellent supervisory, communication & interpersonal skills with the staff team √ Ability to complete and update children’s personal development records √ Able to speak two or more local community languages √ Personal Attributes Must be able to work effectively as a team member √ Ability to work flexibly to ensure that the nursery operates effectively at all times. √ Ability to travel between sites when required √ Other Current first aid qualification √ Ability to respect the YMCA’s Christian ethos √ THE POST HOLDER MUST AGREE TO AUTHORISE A FULL CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU CHECK.
