This is a 4 year apprenticeship resulting in a natinally recognised level 3 diploma in advanced manufacturing and engineering, as well as a BTEC level 3 diploma in enginering. The first year will be spent at MGTS in Coventry, learning core pratical and therectiocal elements of the role. For the following years the apprentice will attend MGTS on a day release basis to complete the necessary education requirements for the programme.
* Quality Inspections - Conducting thorough visual inspections, measurements, and tests on aerospace components and assemblies at various stages of the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards
* Documentation -Learn to maintain accurate and detailed records of inspection findings, including measurements, test results, and any non-conformities identified. This documentation is crucial for traceability and compliance purposes
* Compliance Verification -Learn to verify compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as AS9100 (aerospace quality management system standard) and regulatory requirements set forth by agencies like the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
* Use of Inspection Equipment -Learn functionality and operating a variety of precision metrology measuring tools and equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, plug & screw gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), optical comparators, and non-destructive testing (NDT) processes, to perform inspections accurately
* Quality Assurance Processes -Learning and applying quality assurance processes and procedures, including inspection techniques, sampling methods, statistical analysis (SPC), FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis) and MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) to ensure consistent product quality
* Calibration and Maintenance -Assisting in the calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment and tools to ensure accuracy and reliability in measurement and testing
* Problem Identification -Helping to identify and report quality issues, defects, or discrepancies in components or processes, and working with senior inspectors and engineers to implement corrective actions
* Collaboration -Learn to collaborate with other departments such as engineering, production, and supply chain to resolve quality-related issues and improve overall product quality and reliability
* Training and Development -Participating in training programs and learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in quality inspection techniques, aerospace regulations, and industry best practices
* Continuous Improvement -Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback, suggestions, and ideas for enhancing quality processes, procedures, and product designs
* Safety and Ethics - Adhering to safety protocols, ethical standards, and workplace regulations to maintain a safe and professional working environment
Entry Requirements
We are seeking applications from candidates who have or are predicted to gain 5 x GCSEs (or equivalent). Grades must be A*-C / 9-5 for Maths and A*-C / 9-4 for English, Science and two other subjects.
Training to be Provided
* Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
* BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
* Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
Things to Consider
The nature of the role is precise therefore the ability to concentrate for long periods of time is essential. Lifting and manoeuvring medium to large components. An annual eye sight test is a requirement in order to meet the expected standard for inspection.
After successful completion of the apprenticeship you may have the opportunity to progress into a role such as a senior quality engineer or a quality manager.
