NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post are 37 hours per week, worked over 5/7 days. Normal hours are Monday to Friday 08:45-17:00(45 minute lunch 13:00-
13:45)

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and proactive Pharmacy Technician to join the senior management team at the Beatson. This rare and exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality, safe and efficient aseptic preparation services could be the next step in your career where you will provide technical leadership and operational management within the Beatson pharmacy department specialising in aseptic services. Our pharmacy team are valued members of the wider multidisciplinary team at the Beatson, where we work collaboratively and compassionately with all services and service users to provide integrated, high quality and person-centred pharmacy services.

About the Role

Supervision & Leadership

1. You will provide line management for pharmacy technical staff and support their professional development.
2. Manage day-to-day operations of the aseptic unit overseeing staff workload, rotas and ensuring service continuity.
3. Monitor the preparation of chemotherapy, dose banding, intrathecal medicines and clinical trials.Plan and coordinate service delivery and development.
4. Attendance management in line with local policies.
5. Participate in service improvement initiatives and workforce planning.

Quality & Standards

6. Set and monitor standards for aseptic preparation (e.g. chemotherapy, intrathecal medicines, clinical trials).
7. Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and NHS protocols.
8. Undertake aseptic accuracy checks and act as a mentor for trainee accuracy checking pharmacy technicians.
9. Participate in audits, risk assessments, and service improvement projects.

Training & Development

10. Contribute to education and training frameworks for technical staff.
11. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
12. Support training of Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Workers.
13. Deliver training, competency assessments and progress reviews for technical staff.

You must be confident to work independently and as part of a team interchangeably and have excellent communication, organisational and time management skills. This post is an excellent opportunity for individuals wanting to develop their skills in leadership and management as we encourage and support staff development via local and national training programmes and appraisals in addition to providing you with opportunities to use your own initiative.

You will have significant post-qualification experience and a broad understanding of a wide range of pharmacy technical practice and staff management. You will possess a management qualification or have demonstrable experience of managing staff and/or service delivery. This can be experience of managing junior members of staff (e.g. as a deputy). You must also be able to demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate a team and have proficient IT skills.

Essential

14. Registered Pharmacy Technician with The General Pharmaceutical Council.
15. An accredited pharmacy accuracy checking qualification – dispensary or aseptic

Desirable

16. An SQA Work Based Assessor qualification or working towards.
17. Previous experience of working in or managing an aseptic unit.
