An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Biomedical Scientist Team Manager to join our small, friendly Point of Care Testing (POCT) team at The Christie Pathology Partnership. We proudly provide high‑quality POCT services to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Europe’s largest single‑site cancer centre. Our POCT repertoire includes blood gas analysers, glucose and ketone meters, Hemocue and Haemochron analysers.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate and conduct POCT staff training and competency programmes
* Coordinate validation, verification and implementation of POCT processes
* Develop QMS to achieve UKAS accreditation
* Incident reporting, investigation and preventative action
* Assist in developing a POCT service within the community
* Improve POCT infrastructure and connectivity
* Attend POCT committee meetings and network within hospital and community
* Perform other essential job‑related functions
* Manage day‑to‑day staffing, workflow and relevant training to ensure turnaround times and services are maintained for local KPI and clinical effectiveness.
* Assist with staff training and development, including undertaking staff appraisals
* Develop, prepare, write and review relevant documents, including SOPs
* Deputise for POCT Lead when required
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist, with evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* MSc/FIBMS by examination; currently possessed Fellowship of the IBMS (Blood Sciences, Biochemistry, Haematology, Immunology or Transfusion Science; Cellular Pathology, Histology or Cytology or equivalent experience)
* IBMS Specialist Diploma or an equivalent high‑level working knowledge at post‑honours degree level
* Expert interpretive and diagnostic skills
* Knowledge of national guidelines and protocols relating to specific disciplines
* High degree of accuracy and numeracy
* Good knowledge of computer applications and LIMS, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and statistical packages
* Excellent problem‑solving skills
* Leadership qualities
* Knowledge of Major Incident Plan
Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Level 3 or above management qualification or relevant experience
