An annex 21 development post will be considered with individual competencies and development plan being agreed on appointment.
The RCDS Clinical Nurse Specialist post is a rewarding role supporting diagnosis, management, and care for patients with symptoms concerning for cancer but without specific tumour site red flags.
Applications are invited from registered nurses demonstrating compassion, empathy, excellent communication and organizational skills, and experience in caring for patients with complex needs in relevant clinical settings.
The CNS will facilitate multidisciplinary team working across health and social care, including within the regional cancer network, to provide clinical services, organize investigations, and develop the service model; with potential coverage for GP Lead leave once clinical competencies are met. Compassion, empathy, communication, organizational, and assessment skills are essential.
The Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service was introduced to NHS Borders in 2022 as part of a national initiative to improve diagnosis pathways for patients with vague but concerning symptoms suggestive of cancer, aiming for diagnosis within 21 days of referral. Scottish Government is committed to embedding rapid cancer diagnosis pathways with ongoing funding, which will be reviewed early next year. Therefore, the post is advertised as a fixed-term contract until March 2026.
