Head Chef – Wellness Café, Kensington
Opening in Spring 2026, Maslow's welcomes it's third addition to the portfolio – Maslow's Kensington. In this inspiring new workplace, we will operate two-floors of private members co-working space - 31 private offices and a total of 303 desks, with a Wellness Café and Bar – all just a stone's throw from High Street Kensington.
Maslow's Wellness Café is a new, all-day, wellness-forward concept from Maslow's. The café celebrates nourishing, flavour-rich, seasonal food that's as good for the body as it is for the planet. With a focus on balance, simplicity, and quality, the menu brings together fresh produce, thoughtful preparation, and mindful dining — from build-your-own deli plates to vibrant salads, wholesome grains, slow-cooked proteins, and health-led drinks.
Role Overview:
The Head Chef will lead the kitchen operations for Maslow's Wellness Café, delivering exceptional, health-driven food with creativity and consistency. You will oversee all aspects of kitchen management — from menu development and food sourcing to team leadership and operational excellence — ensuring every dish reflects Maslow's values of Care, Curiosity, and Commitment.
This role will work closely with our appointed Nutritionist to ensure the café's menus align with Maslow's wellness principles, providing balanced, nutrient-rich, and flavour-led offerings that support holistic wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
Culinary Leadership & Menu Development
• Lead on menu creation and seasonal updates, aligned with Maslow's wellness philosophy and sustainability ethos.
• Collaborate with the appointed Nutritionist to design menus that are nutritionally balanced and aligned with Maslow's wellness standards.
• Develop and cost recipes that balance health, flavour, and commercial viability.
• Champion plant-forward, nutrient-rich, and allergen-conscious dishes that cater to diverse dietary preferences.
• Maintain strong supplier relationships and champion local, ethical sourcing.
Operational & Financial Management
• Manage kitchen budgets, GP targets, and labour costs in line with agreed business objectives.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations, stock control, ordering, and waste management.
• Collaborate with the GM and Operations support team to forecast volumes, manage prep levels, and drive operational efficiency.
Compliance & Food Safety
• Ensure full compliance with EHO, Food Alert, and internal health and safety standards.
• Maintain up-to-date HACCP documentation, temperature logs, and allergen information.
• Conduct regular food safety audits, risk assessments, and corrective action follow-ups.
• Guarantee that all kitchen staff are trained in and adhere to food hygiene, allergen, and safety procedures.
• Liaise with external auditors and internal compliance teams to uphold Maslow's Gold Standard of kitchen excellence.
Team Leadership & Culture
• Recruit, train, and inspire a motivated kitchen team that reflects Maslow's values.
• Create a positive and collaborative working environment with clear communication and fair rota management.
• Deliver ongoing training focused on nutrition, allergen awareness, and sustainable kitchen practices.
• Foster a culture of care and curiosity — empowering the team to learn, contribute ideas, and grow.
Guest Experience & Brand Representation
• Work closely with the House GM, Nutritionist, and FOH team to deliver a seamless guest experience.
• Lead on the culinary delivery of wellness workshops, pop-ups, and private events.
• Represent Maslow's brand ethos — warm, understated, and generous — in every detail of food presentation and service.
Skills & Experience:
• Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a café, wellness, or all-day dining environment.
• Strong understanding of nutrition-led and plant-forward cooking.
• Passionate about sustainability, local sourcing, and zero-waste principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Commercially astute, confident with costings, and able to balance creativity with profitability.
• Level 3 Food Hygiene (minimum) and sound knowledge of HACCP and allergen management.
