An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the multidisciplinary team at Bryngolau Ward, Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. This is a 30-hour post within Older Adult Mental Health, providing an excellent opportunity to develop and enhance your clinical skills within the OT framework.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering holistic, client-centred care, focusing on promoting independence and maintaining functional skills. You will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support effective and safe discharge planning for patients.

The position offers a chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults while advancing your professional expertise in a supportive and dynamic environment.


Main duties of the job

The post offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic multidisciplinary team. You will have a specific interest in Older Adult Mental Health and demonstrate enthusiasm for the role. You will be keen to develop best practice in compliance with Dementia Standards and A Healthier Wales.

The post holder will be required to develop positive relationships between all healthcare professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies, maintaining good communication across all areas.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, and intervention of clients experiencing cognitive loss. You will have a varied caseload including younger onset dementia sufferers and people living with functional mental health issues.

There will be opportunities to develop group work skills and deliver evidence-based interventions such as Recovery Through Activity.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities

This post is advertised as a Band 6; applicants not currently at Band 6 are encouraged to apply and may be appointed under Annex 21 rules, with phased pay progression over three years. Support will be provided to develop necessary competencies within 36 months. Failure to attain these may result in redeployment.

There is no financial penalty during the development period, and protections are in place if pay is reduced.

We are not able to offer this post to Newly Qualified OT's.

Occupational Therapists have access to supervision, professional development, and postgraduate opportunities. A full job description and person specification are attached.

The Health Board encourages bilingualism to enhance patient experiences and welcomes Welsh speakers. Support to meet language requirements is available.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Current HCPC registration
* Knowledge of health and social care legislation
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
* Understanding of health and social care roles
* Knowledge of rehabilitation interventions
* Understanding of clinical governance, research, and audit
* Use of outcome measures
* Knowledge of primary/secondary care services
* Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment
* Knowledge of Health Board priorities
* Accredited Agored Assessor


Experience

* Postgraduate experience as an Occupational Therapist
* Managing complex caseloads
* Independent working with indirect supervision
* Delegation and supervision of staff
* Handling distressing situations
* Teamwork and service development
* Engagement with carers and families
* Self-development
* Use of adapted techniques
* Group work experience
* Community working experience
* Use of virtual communication platforms
* Relevant clinical experience


Language Skills

* Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
