Field Service Engineer – Power Generation
Location: Covering Corby, Bedford & Stewartby region
Hours: Monday–Friday, days + 1/8 paid call-out rotation
Overview
We’re looking for a Field Service Engineer to support gas reciprocating engines and associated power-generation plant across multiple sites. You’ll play a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation by carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding, diagnostics, and performance optimisation.
This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with strong mechanical or electrical engineering experience and a passion for sustainability and low-carbon power generation.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct preventive, corrective, and reactive maintenance on gas engines and associated equipment
* Diagnose and resolve faults to minimise downtime and maintain performance
* Respond to out-of-hours call-outs as part of a rota
* Perform engine overhauls and strip-downs when required
* Complete accurate service reports and documentation
* Maintain stock, tools, and equipment to required standards
* Work safely, adhering to HSQE procedures and reporting requirements
* Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
* NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
* Experience with gas reciprocating engines (Jenbacher, MWM, MTU, Caterpillar, Deutz desirable)
* OR equivalent hands-on engine experience in industrial, marine, or agricultural sectors
* Familiarity with low-voltage systems beneficial
* Full UK manual driving licence
* Able to travel across the region during call-out week
