Job Description
As Research Manager – Contracts and Funding, you will play a vital role in the delivery of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s research portfolio. You will lead on financial and contractual aspects of research funding, ensuring responsible, efficient administration to maximize impact for people affected by dementia. This role is within the Research Directorate, working closely with Finance and Fundraising teams.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Research award financial oversight:
* Maintain systems to track financial data for funded grants and act as the primary contact for related queries.
* Monitor grants for compliance and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
* Collaborate on grant forecasting and budget control.
* Provide financial best practice advice and training.
* Oversee grant audits and lead annual data collection.
* Identify procedural efficiencies and improvements.
1. Research contracts and agreements:
* Lead drafting, negotiation, and finalization of research-related contracts.
* Coordinate with host institutions, legal advisors, and partners to resolve contractual issues.
* Ensure contracts comply with policies, funder requirements, and regulations.
2. Research policy and process development:
* Contribute to policy refinement and SOP updates.
* Support new funding schemes development with financial and contractual advice.
* Represent ARUK at sector forums, staying updated on funding trends and compliance.
3. Management Responsibilities:
* Line manage a Research Executive, supporting their objectives.
* Promote an inspiring team culture focused on personal development.
What we are looking for:
* Significant experience in research finance or contract management, preferably in a research or academic setting.
* Knowledge of research funding frameworks, budgeting, and governance.
* Financial literacy with experience in budgeting, reporting, and data analysis.
* Experience in drafting and negotiating research agreements, understanding IP and data sharing issues.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Proactive, detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
* Strong project management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities and risks.
* Team player with effective collaboration skills.

* Willingness to embrace change and travel occasionally.
Additional Information:
* Flexible working: approx. 2 days/week in the office, with remote options.
* Office location: 3 Riverside, Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge CB21 6AD.
* Salary: circa £43,000 + benefits.
