Job Title: Mechanical Soot Blower and Services Engineer

Summary:
The Mechanical Soot Blower Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of soot blower systems used in waste-to-energy and gasification plants. The role ensures optimal boiler cleaning performance, improved plant efficiency, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Installation & Commissioning:
* Install and commission mechanical soot blowers and related equipment on new or retrofit boiler systems.
* Verify mechanical alignment, lubrication, and operational readiness of equipment.
Maintenance & Repairs:
* Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of soot blowers, gearboxes, drive mechanisms, and steam supply systems.
* Replace worn or damaged components and ensure all parts meet OEM specifications.
* Document maintenance activities and provide recommendations for performance optimization.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
* Identify and resolve operational issues, such as steam leakage, incomplete travel, or misalignment.
* Analyse performance data to detect potential failures or efficiency losses.
Technical Support & Training:
* Support plant personnel with operational guidance and training on soot blower maintenance.
* Collaborate with OEMs and engineering teams to implement design improvements or upgrades.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
* Adhere to plant and company safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work procedures.
* Ensure compliance with environmental and operational regulations.
Experience/Qualifications/Skills:
Education:
* Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
Experience:
* 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing mechanical equipment in power generation, WtE, or gasification environments.
* Familiarity with soot blower systems (e.g., Clyde Bergemann, Diamond Power, or equivalent).
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in mechanical systems, hydraulics, steam systems, and rotating equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and maintenance manuals.
* Basic knowledge of PLC-controlled systems is an advantage.
Soft Skills:
* Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in challenging plant environments.
Preferred Certifications (Optional):
* OSHA or equivalent safety certification.
* Confined Space Entry and Working at Heights certifications.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
* Frequent travel to customer sites (domestic and international).
* Work in high-temperature, noisy, and dusty environments (boiler houses and industrial plants).
* Ability to lift components up to 25 kg and perform tasks in confined spaces or at heights.
