There is a vacancy for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join the team at the Watford Renal Centre, a satellite of the Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre.
An opportunity has arisen for an individual with excellent communication skills to join our team on this 20-stationed chronic haemodialysis unit.
The successful candidate will assist registered nursing staff in caring for patients who require haemodialysis and become a member of the multidisciplinary care team.
The setting up and decontamination of equipment is a major part of this role. The work is routine, physically demanding, challenging and rewarding.
Main duties of the job
1. Welcome and escort patients from the waiting area into the dialysis unit.
2. Assist patients with activities of daily living in accordance with their plan of care.
3. Assist patients and ambulance staff to mobilise and/or transfer onto and out of haemodialysis chairs, in accordance with the patient’s individual manual handling risk assessment and plan of care.
4. Promote, monitor and maintain a working environment that is safe and clean for attending patients and staff.
5. Promote, monitor and maintain the safety and security of the ward environment and promptly report faulty equipment to registered nurse according to ward policy and procedure.
6. To use effective communication skills with staff, patients, relatives and visitors ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
7. Attend ward handover and staff meetings and make valuable contributions towards the smooth running of the clinical area.
8. Participate in the ordering and stock control of unit supplies, maintain appropriate records.
9. To attend Trust mandatory training and 2 yearly updates, in accordance with policy and procedure.
