The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors – which are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. This fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, seeks an individual with experience regulating energy, combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for the sector and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as DEFRA, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
Incident Response
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be expected to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Team & Strategic Direction
The Energy & COMAH team are part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, tools to support regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience & Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role in question, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes. This includes knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
