KJIA is an 11-18 Academy located in the centre of Bishop Auckland; a market town surrounded by the Durham Dales, a short journey from the coast, and with excellent transport links via road and rail to other major regional towns and cities, including Durham, Darlington, Newcastle and Sunderland.

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to support lessons and pre-determined educational activities. The successful candidate will focus relentlessly upon giving students opportunities for success both within and beyond the classroom as well as providing stimulating and engaging learning experiences.

Working at King James I Academy will provide the opportunity to join a dedicated and highly valued team of staff who are "proud to work at the school" (Ofsted 2022), and whose mission is to become an outstanding academy that develops successful, well rounded, socially mobile and confident young people who can contribute effectively to the global community. The Academy is part of the Eden Learning Trust, having joined on 01 December 2023, this in turn has provided additional opportunities for students and staff.

The successful candidate will:

Support the Pupil by:

1. Attending to the pupils' educational needs.

2. Support the carrying out of pre-determined educational activities and programmes of learning whilst promoting independent learning.

3. Establish a supportive relationship with children and parents, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.

4. Encouraging acceptance and inclusion of the children with special needs.

5. Promoting and reinforcing the child's self-esteem and to act independently as appropriate

6. Supporting pupils in respect of learning strategies e.g. literacy and numeracy, as directed by the teacher.

7. Supporting pupils in using basic ICT as directed.

Support the Teacher by:

1. Displaying pupils work as directed by the teacher / senior colleagues.

2. Undertaking pupil record keeping as requested

3. Being aware of pupil problems/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed.
