About the role
Are you passionate about helping people and providing excellent customer service at times when it matters most?
We're looking for a motivated and organised individual to join our Housing Options Service, supporting the delivery of Select Move and helping residents access social housing. This is a busy frontline service where you'll work as part of a rota, depending on service needs, so flexibility and teamwork are essential.
Working closely with colleagues, you'll play a key role in delivering a consistent, high-quality service and a positive experience for every customer. This is a great opportunity for development and could provide a first step into a career in housing. It may also be well suited as a secondment for the right person.
Responsibilities
* Managing Select Move applications from start to finish, making sure they are assessed accurately and without delay.
* Reviewing evidence and making decisions on housing applications in line with policy.
* Speaking to customers every day, by phone, email and face to face, helping them understand their options.
* Attending drop‑in sessions as and when required where residents can get advice and guidance.
* Working with people who may be vulnerable or under pressure and handling those situations with care and professionalism.
* Keeping records up to date and making sure information is clear and accurate.
* Supporting wider teamwork, including responding to enquiries from councillors and MPs when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience and confidence in dealing with customers, including situations where people may be anxious or frustrated, while maintaining professionalism at all times.
* Ability to follow guidance and procedures, with a proactive approach and a focus on continuous improvement.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a busy workload without losing attention to detail.
* Clear and natural communication skills, with the ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
* Confidence in handling sensitive conversations and staying calm and professional under pressure.
* Willingness to learn and quickly take on new information.
* Comfortable using systems and maintaining accurate, up to date records.
Other Requirements
* Successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check (applied and paid for by the Council).
