Asa Commercial Manager at Kainos, you will be joining a commercially focused, leading in-house legal team.We are seeking a pragmatic, business-focused and collaborativecommerciallawyer.Theideal candidate will bringexpertisein drafting,negotiatingand advising on complex commercial contracts, with a proven ability to balance legal risk against commercialobjectives. A strong understandingand experience ofthe UK Public Sector procurement and contracting environment is highly desirable. You will beflexible,forward-thinkingand solutions-oriented, with the confidence to provide clear, practical advice that supports strategic goals. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment,demonstratesexceptional stakeholder engagement skills, andmaintainsastrong business focus while safeguarding compliance and governance.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Actas a trusted advisor to the business, balancing legal obligations with commercial realities. You willbe responsible forkeeping stakeholders engaged at all steps of the process and shifting focus to align with business needs.
2. Draft,reviewand negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer,supplierand partner contracts.
3. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across commercial, finance,deliveryand leadership teams to enable strategic initiatives.
4. Support bid teams on contractual terms for tenders and proposals.
5. Identifyand mitigate legal and commercial risks in new ventures and ongoing operations.
6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatorychangesand industry best practice.
7. Contribute to continuous improvement of contract templates,processesand governance frameworks.
8. Managing,supervisingand supporting the upskilling anddevelopmentof more junior members of the team asrequired.
MINIMUM (ESSENTIAL) REQUIREMENTS:
9. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a minimum of8years relevant post qualification experience in acommercialcontract'srole.
10. Extensive experience in commercial contracts within IT Sector.
11. Articulate, analytical, pragmatic, and enthusiastic.
12. Excellent drafting, communication, and negotiation skills
13. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with demonstrated
ability of building strong trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
14. A high attention to detail with excellent time management, organisational and
planning skills.
15. Ability to work to tight deadlines and make sensible decisions under pressure.

DESIRABLE:
19. A strong understanding of the UK Public Sector procurement and contractingand subcontractingenvironment is highly desirable
20. Solid understanding of core legislative requirements such as GDPR, AI Act and Procurement Act is desirable.
