About the School
We’re supporting a small SEMH school in Chesterfield that provides specialist education for pupils aged 11–16 who experience social, emotional and mental health needs. The school offers a highly supportive environment designed to help learners who may have faced challenges in mainstream settings.
With small class sizes, strong pastoral care, and tailored learning programmes, the school places a clear focus on inclusion, positive relationships, and preparing pupils for their next stage in education or employment. Every young person is encouraged to feel valued, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to succeed.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll make a real impact by:
• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups with both learning and emotional development.
• Using positive strategies and de-escalation techniques to help students manage their behaviour and build resilience.
• Working alongside teachers and support staff to create a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment.
• Promoting high expectations and supporting pupils to re-engage with their education and personal growth.
What You’ll Need
• At least 3 months’ experience working with young people.
• A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach, particularly when faced with challenging behaviour.
• A genuine commitment to supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
