Job Description:
This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring reporting to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility for weekend events. The GM Motorsports Program seeks a race strategy analyst to develop and support race strategy tools for Sportscar events, including merging existing AI/ML tools for WEC and IMSA series, performing strategy analysis, and contributing to real-time race decision-making. Responsibilities include applying data science techniques, refining models, developing simulation platforms, creating visualizations, verifying tool accuracy, and collaborating across various GM teams and motorsports series. The role offers opportunities to influence race outcomes through innovative strategy development and requires extensive teamwork and technical expertise.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and refine race strategy tools using data science and modeling techniques.
* Enhance existing AI/ML models and develop simulation platforms.
* Create and refine tire degradation and vehicle pace models.
* Design visualizations to communicate insights effectively.
* Verify and validate race strategy tools during live events.
* Collaborate with internal and external teams across motorsports series.
* Support the development of production race strategy software.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
* 7+ years experience in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC) with 2+ years developing or using strategy tools.
* Knowledge of motorsports race strategy and analysis during live events.
* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
* Familiarity with AI/ML modeling techniques.
* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset.
* Willingness to travel up to 10% within the US.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows.
* Knowledge of machine learning libraries and big data tools.
