Salary: £24,479 rising to £25,927 upon completion of training

We’re recruiting for a Fuel Point Attendant (FPA) at our Eastleigh Depot — a development role with a structured pathway leading to full qualification as a Service Assistant.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a professional Light Maintenance team, gain valuable rail skills, and progress through a clear, supported training programme.
About the Role
As a Fuel Point Attendant, you will carry out essential overnight servicing activities to ensure trains are safe, replenished, and ready for service.
Through a detailed multi‑stage training programme, you will develop the competency needed to progress into the Service Assistant role, achieving the higher salary upon completion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fuelling traction units
2. Filling toilet water tanks and emptying effluent tanks
3. Filling wholesome water tanks
4. Replenishing coolants, oils, sanding systems and screenwash
5. Supporting efficient movement and throughput of vehicles within the depot
6. Completing all required documentation accurately
7. Carrying out maintenance tasks to set instructions
8. Operating depot plant and equipment once trained
9. Assisting Maintenance and Train Presentation teams when required
10. Maintaining tools, equipment and ensuring excellent housekeeping standards
11. Participating in safety briefings, safety tours and compliance activities
12. Providing cover for Operations Controller duties as training progresses
What We’re Looking For
Essential
13. Good standard of education
14. IT literate
15. Strong communication skills
16. Ability to work independently and within a team
17. Problem‑solving ability
18. Understanding of health, safety and environmental standards
Desirable
19. NVQ Level 2 in Engineering or BTEC / City & Guilds equivalent
20. Experience within a depot, engineering, or rail environment
21. Knowledge of mechanical or engineering principles
Training & Progression
You will complete a structured, multi‑stage development programme, covering:
22. Equality & Diversity, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, COSHH, Working at Heights, Waste Management
23. Depot Safety, Personal Track Safety (PTS), Spill Training
24. Technical modules (torque tightening, axle bearings, unit‑specific competencies)
25. Development hours in Driver Operations and Shunting
26. First aid, defibrillator usage, ergonomics and PPE awareness
Once all required competencies and assessments are successfully completed, you will progress to Service Assistant with a salary of £25,927.

27. Safety Critical role (Drug & Alcohol testing applies)
28. PTS required (training provided)
29. Night shift pattern: 20:00–06:30, 4 on / 4 off
