Salford City Council’s Vehicle Management Services provides maintenance to the council’s fleet of vehicles, including 26‑ton refuse vehicles, road sweepers, vans and trailers. In order to deliver this essential service, we have a dedicated team that supports all our front line vehicles. We also inspect all Salford’s registered private hire and hackney taxis twice a year.
Based at Turnpike Depot, Eccles, you will be an enthusiastic and talented vehicle mechanic with the drive to keep our transport fleet on the move, and be willing to work alternating shifts. This is an opportunity to enhance your skills, carrying out maintenance on our fleet of HGV, light vehicles and specialised equipment.
You must hold a current driving licence (LGV category C is desirable but not essential) and be trained to NVQ level 3 and/or City & Guilds (or equivalent) for light or heavy vehicles in a vehicle maintenance/repair environment.
You will work as part of a team to support Vehicle Management Services based in Turnpike Depot. The position offers continual training to enhance skills and knowledge. You need to be organised and have good written and oral communication skills, and customer‑care skills.
