The File Handler will manage a caseload of varied EL/PL cases on behalf of insurance clients. The role requires a forensic and analytical approach to employer and public liability issues, with experience and/or understanding of the relevant documents and evidence. Most cases will be Fast-Track, with the potential to handle Multi-Track cases up to £100K, generally on a non-delegated authority basis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Considering concepts and merits of primary and secondary liability in employer and public liability claims.
2. Handling matters in accordance with client SLA’s.
3. Initial report/review and setting strategy for managing the claim.
4. Reviewing evidence such as witness statements, GP records, occupational health records, and property inspection reports.
5. Dealing with disclosure and conducting investigations.
6. Conducting CMCs and applications.
7. Reviewing and reporting on exchange of evidence, receipt of medical evidence, joint statements, or other stages.
8. Instructing counsel, investigators, medical, and other experts.
9. Drafting questions for medical experts.
10. Preparing costs schedules and dealing with routine correspondence.
11. Research and preparing counter schedules.
12. Drafting pre-trial reports and attending conferences and trials with counsel.
13. Preparing and checking trial bundles.
14. Managing CRU appeals and ensuring compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.
Working Hours
35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. The primary location is Parklands, Bolton Office. Hybrid working is in place, requiring attendance once a week in the office.
