Overview
Per Diem Physical Therapist (Outpatient) at Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, part of Tufts Medicine system. This position evaluates, develops and implements treatment programs for individual patients according to physical therapy principles. The therapist will treat patients of all ages to help achieve maximum function using therapeutic exercises, activities, modalities, and skills. May supervise staff therapists and senior therapists, participate in program planning, and coordinate clinics. May provide weekend/holiday coverage based on operational need.
Responsibilities
* Evaluate and treat a variety of diagnoses with professional competency and efficiency to ensure quality patient care; able to evaluate and treat pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general populations.
* Assess and re-assess patient pain; develop and adjust treatment plans to maximize functional outcomes.
* Engage patients and families in the plan of care; develop teaching plans tailored to learning, cultural, and psychosocial needs.
* Set realistic short- and long-term goals related to physical therapy needs across musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary systems.
* Communicate clearly with patients, families, physicians, and staff; collaborate with interdisciplinary team.
* Supervise and educate students and evaluate their performance.
* Maintain timely documentation in the medical record to support communication and reimbursement; adhere to billing guidelines and departmental operations.
* Contribute to department operations, participate in quality improvement activities, and prepare for JCAHO surveys.
* Attend rounds, meetings, and professional development activities; meet attendance and punctuality requirements.
* Follow safety procedures and promote a safe work environment.
* Collaborate with the care team to promote patient safety and independence in discharge planning.
* Provide clinical instruction and mentorship; participate in developing/revising practice standards; support staff training as needed.
* Oversee assigned areas of service, monitor quality, and stay current with new techniques and interventions.
* Act as a clinical and non-clinical resource within subspecialty areas as needed.
* Per diem responsibilities may include orientation of new staff, committee participation, QA activities, and supervision of students and aides.
Qualifications
* Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy or equivalent.
* Graduation from an approved school of Physical Therapy.
* Physical Therapy (PT) license.
* One (1) year of clinical experience (minimum).
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced Degree (Masters or Doctorate).
* Two (2) years of clinical experience.
