Hands & Eyes Technician Data Centre Location: Warton (Preston) Employment Type: On-Site | Full-Time / Dayshift About the Role Were looking for a dependable, detail-focused Hands & Eyes Technician to provide on-site, first-line support for customer equipment. The role will be based in Warton, Preston but there will be an expectation to travel to Barrow in Furness from time to time to attend workshops. Youll be the physical presence for remote engineering teamsperforming visual checks, basic hardware actions, and equipment handling to ensure smooth operations and rapid issue resolution. What Youll Do As the on-site Hands & Eyes Technician, you will: Visually inspect equipment status indicators (LEDs) and report findings to customers. Perform power-cycles and physical resets based on detailed written instructions. Verify power and cabling connectivity, ensuring all cables are correctly seated. Test cable paths according to provided standards and procedures. Connect crash carts (KVM) to assist with diagnosing failed reboots or hardware issues. Insert or mount physical media to support system builds or troubleshooting. Activate hardware controls as requested by customers. Replace hot-swappable components as guided by written intervention plans. What You Bring Technical Skills Basic understanding of IT operations in large organisations. General technical aptitude with interest in hardware and data-centre environments. Basic knowledge of server hardware and peripherals. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and general PC hardware. Basic networking knowledge (cables, ports, link lights, connectivity checks). Personal Attributes High level of reliability, responsibility, and professional integrity. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely. Calm, flexible approach when dealing with unexpected issues. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Customer-focused and able to manage expectations effectively. Fluency in English and the local language (spoken and written). Preferred (but not required) Previous data-centre operations experience. Familiarity with data-centre processes, security protocols, and workflows. Technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA A, N, hardware or vendor certifications).
