Location: Portsmouth Naval Base – On site
Salary: Up to £58,000 depending on skills and experience + 10% bonus

What You’ll Be Doing:
In this pivotal role, you will:

Apply Systems Thinking: Understand the broader problem space, manage constraints, and balance key trade-offs while shaping architecture and interfaces.

Lead Requirements Management: Capture, decompose, and agree on requirements while maintaining traceability and managing changes.
*
Champion Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): Model system behavior, structure, and interfaces, ensuring adherence to modeling standards.
*
Manage Complexity: Break down multi-domain challenges, visualize dependencies, and maintain structured decision records throughout delivery.
*
Contribute to Lifecycle Delivery: Tailor lifecycle processes, plan integration, and prepare for design and test reviews.
*
Collaborate with Service Hubs: Engage closely with Asset Management Service Hubs to deliver tailored systems engineering capabilities.
*
Provide Technical Leadership: Lead reviews, manage risks, ensure governance, and mentor engineers while promoting best practices.
Essential Skills:
* Strong experience in systems engineering across the lifecycle, including requirements management, architecture definition, integration, MBSE, and V&V.
* Proficiency in high-level design methodologies (e.g., UAF, NAF, TOGAF, SysML, UML) and practical capability in MBSE tools like Enterprise Architect.
* Knowledge of Systems Engineering standards and principles, including ISO 15288.
* Exposure to system integration and verification activities to meet functional and performance needs.
* A degree in a STEM or systems-related discipline (or equivalent experience), with a desirable awareness of maritime or ship systems. You must be working towards CEng or operating at that level.
The BAE Systems Warship Technical Authority Hub:
This role is part of the Systems Engineering Hub within the Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Service Hub, dedicated to delivering comprehensive engineering support and change management for naval systems.
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will:
* Lead and manage ongoing contracted workstreams.
* Deliver tailored systems engineering services to Asset Management Service Hubs.
* Provide technical leadership and act as a technical authority within your scope.
* Engage with customers and suppliers while mentoring engineers to enhance project capabilities.
