Baltic Recruitment is pleased to support our global manufacturing client, serving the oil, natural gas, industrial, and renewable energy industries, in their search for a PCB Test & Repair Engineer.
Overall Purpose:
The PCB Test and Repair Engineer is responsible for testing, diagnosing, and repairing Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) in a fast-paced, high-tech environment. This role involves using specialised test equipment, interpreting schematics, and collaborating with design and production teams to ensure the high quality and reliability of PCB products.
Key Duties:
1. PCB Testing: Conduct tests on PCBs using automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools. Analyze test results and compare against design specifications to identify faults or performance issues. Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and scripts to ensure all PCB designs meet required standards.
2. PCB Repair: Identify and troubleshoot faults in PCBs, including surface-mount devices (SMDs), through-hole components, and complex multi-layer boards. Perform repairs such as component replacement, soldering, and rework using tools like hot-air rework stations, microscopes, soldering irons, and reflow ovens.
3. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of testing results, repairs, and modifications. Generate reports summarising testing processes, results, and defects. Collaborate with engineering to document failures and suggest design or process improvements.
4. Accountabilities: Troubleshoot and test PCBs, SMT, connectors, etc. Perform repairs and computer-controlled operations.
5. Internal/External Interaction: Provide feedback to design engineers, work with production teams to ensure workflow efficiency, and assist in troubleshooting PCB assembly issues.
Key Requirements:
* Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
* IPC-A- Certification (or equivalent) preferred but not essential.
* Hands-on experience with PCB assembly, soldering, and component identification.
* Proficiency in reading circuit diagrams, schematics, and PCB layout files (Gerber files, BOM).
* Experience with testing, debugging, and reworking PCB software tools.
The Package:
£25,000 – £35,000 per annum depending on experience. 37 hours/week: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Mon-Thurs, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Friday (flexi-time available). 25 days holidays + 8 bank holidays. Benefits include 5% pension contribution, private healthcare, 2x salary life insurance.
