The Role:

The Student Welfare and Experience Officer will play a key role in enhancing the student experience on the FdSc programme. This position is responsible for engaging participants with the welfare support available, providing mentoring services, and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment through the student journey. Success will be measured through the retention, progression and feedback from FdSc students.

To carry out the following duties:

* Act as the first point of contact for students seeking welfare and feedback support.

* Signpost students to appropriate university and PGA services, including mental health, financial advice, and academic support.

* Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding and policies of The PGA and the University.

* Report any behavioural or attendance issues and work with the year Administrator and Head of Training Programme, following up with agreed actions as required.

* Where appropriate make referrals to the disability coordinator, following up with agreed actions.

* Provide one-to-one mentoring sessions to support students’ personal and academic development.

* Assist students in setting goals and overcoming challenges throughout their programme.

* Monitor student progress, create support plans and risk assessments, escalating concerns where necessary. Assist with implementing reasonable adjustments and support mechanisms.

* Organise and deliver activities that foster community and engagement within the programme.

* Promote student feedback mechanisms and ensure continuous improvement of the student experience.

* Collaborate with academic and administrative teams to enhance programme delivery.

* Develop and share resources to raise awareness of welfare and support services.

* Use digital platforms and appropriate PGA communication platforms to engage students effectively.

* Responsibility to foster and develop the student voice through the existing staff student committee function.

* Represent the FdSc programme face-to-face at residential events and provide online induction sessions for students requiring additional feedback or support.

* To identify common concerns in student feedback and lead the development of new institutional policies where required, including the design, delivery and monitoring of effective, robust action plans and evaluation.

* During the low season months (usually July – September) to provide required support for the recruitment of new students to the PGA Admissions team.

Role Requirements: Education/Qualifications/Key Competences/Personal Profile:

Degree or equivalent experience in student support, education, or related field; ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries; knowledge of welfare, safeguarding practices, equality, diversity, and inclusion principles; experience in mentoring or coaching students; familiar with university support systems and student engagement strategies; good IT skills; able to create support strategies for a diverse range of learning needs; have an understanding of ways to enhance students’ academic experience to meet the PGA’s strategic objectives; exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult situations; highly developed communication, external customer/stakeholder liaison, and networking skills; confident/natural presenter across multiple audiences (verbal and written).

Strong communicator, demonstrating empathy and a non-judgemental approach;resilient to emotionally demanding situations; highly organized, ability to work independently with minimal supervision; professional disposition with enthusiasm and drive, passion to succeed being results driven; business and customer focused; acts with discretion;
