The Client:
A well-established and reputable construction contractor based in Colchester, delivering a range of high-quality projects across multiple sectors throughout the South East. With a strong pipeline of ongoing work and a collaborative, forward-thinking team, they are now looking to recruit a Trainee Buyer to support their commercial and procurement functions.
The Role:
As Trainee Buyer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the purchasing and supply chain activities of the business, assisting in the procurement of materials and equipment for live projects. You’ll work closely with senior staff to develop your knowledge of suppliers, pricing, and the construction process, with full training and long-term development on offer. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills and an interest in construction to build a lasting career in procurement.
Responsibilities:
* Support the buying team with sourcing and ordering materials for live construction projects.
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and confirm delivery schedules.
* Assist in raising and tracking purchase orders and ensuring accurate record keeping.
* Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate costs under supervision.
* Monitor stock levels, delivery times and project requirements.
* Help maintain pricing databases and procurement systems.
* Support site teams and commercial staff with general administrative and procurement duties.
* Learn and develop an understanding of procurement processes within a construction environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Previous experience in construction or procurement administration is beneficial but not essential.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
* Good attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
* Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn.
* Based within commuting distance of Colchester, Essex.
