SEMH Specialist Teaching Assistant – Full-Time | Coventry

Location: Coventry
Contract: Full-Time | Temporary | Ongoing
Start Date: January 2026 (or sooner)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

APT Education is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Coventry that is deeply committed to supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is seeking a full-time SEMH Specialist Teaching Assistant to join their team from January 2026 or earlier.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a nurturing environment where relationships, emotional wellbeing, and pupil-centred support are at the heart of everything they do. The school has a strong ethos of belonging, trust, and resilience, and staff work collaboratively to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and understood.

🧠 About the Role:

You’ll be supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 who face emotional and behavioural challenges, including those with ADHD, Autism (ASC), attachment difficulties, and trauma-related needs. Many pupils may display challenging behaviour, and your role will be key in helping them regulate, engage, and succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Providing consistent 1:1 and small group support focused on emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development

* Supporting pupils through transitions, sensory needs, and moments of dysregulation using trauma-informed approaches

* Collaborating with class teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to implement EHCPs and personalised support plans

* Using restorative practices and therapeutic strategies to build trust and promote resilience

* Creating a calm, structured, and emotionally safe space for pupils to thrive

✅ Ideal Candidate:

* Experience supporting children with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour in a school or care setting

* Calm, empathetic, and confident in de-escalating difficult situations

* Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and behaviour strategies

* Excellent communication skills and a team-first mindset

* A valid Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

🌟 Why This School?

* A nurturing, inclusive ethos where staff wellbeing is valued as highly as pupil wellbeing

* A leadership team that prioritises emotional literacy and whole-child development

* Regular CPD and training in SEMH, safeguarding, and therapeutic approaches

* A collaborative staff culture where your voice and expertise are respected

💙 Why APT Education?

* We’re a people-first agency specialising in primary education

* We work with schools that share our values of inclusion, compassion, and excellence

* You’ll receive ongoing support, training, and career development from our dedicated team

If you’re a passionate SEMH practitioner who believes in the power of relationships, consistency, and compassion, we’d love to hear from you
