Sales Engineer - electrical (office and field)
Overview
We are recruiting a Sales Engineer to join a long-established electrical equipment manufacturer supplying HV and LV power and distribution equipment for commercial and industrial applications. The business sells directly to licensed electrical contractors and end users across the Midlands.
This role is open to either experienced technical sales professionals within the electrical sector or electrically qualified engineers and electricians who are looking to transition from the tools into a sales-focused career. Full training and development will be provided.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing and developing a defined Midlands territory as a regional Sales Engineer.
Approximately 70% of the role will focus on account management, building and maintaining relationships with existing customers, including licensed electrical contractors, key accounts, engineering partners and end users. You will maintain oversight of live orders, understand customer requirements, and support sales of LV and HV switchgear, transformers and associated power solutions.
Typical order values range from £50k to £150k, with annual sales of £4-5 million achievable once established.
Around 30% of the role will focus on business development, identifying and onboarding new customers within the territory.
The position will involve a mix of office-based and field-based sales activity. For junior or developing candidates, the role will initially be more office-based before moving into field sales over a 6-12 month period.
You will work closely with internal technical, engineering and tendering teams, provide quotations, confirm supply availability, and manage customer activity through the ERP and CRM systems. Training will be provided on all internal systems, including Bowers.
Location
Midlands territory. Candidates should be commutable to Heanor, Derby, Belper or surrounding areas.
Skills and Experience
* Sales experience within the electrical sector or technical sales environment
* Alternatively, a strong electrical or engineering background with a desire to move into sales
* Experience selling to electrical contractors is highly desirable
* Basic understanding of voltage levels and ratings
* Comfortable using ERP and CRM systems (training provided)
* Good general computer skills
* Engineering or electrical qualifications beneficial but not essential
* Full UK driving licence

Training and Development
You will be office-based for the first two months for onboarding and product training. After this, the role will transition to a field-based position with home working, covering the Midlands territory. Ongoing development will be provided over an initial six-month period.
Hours
37.5 hours per week. Flexibility is expected and supported, in line with a sales role.
Salary and Package
Experienced candidates: £50,000 - £60,000 plus bonus
Developing candidates: £35,000 - £45,000 plus bonus
