Pipe Fitter / Mains Layer – The Role
The Pipe Fitter / Mains Layer is required to cover works within the Southern region.
Key Responsibilities
* Water companies permit to work (PTW) system.
* Water main design drawings service drawings and job packs.
* PE pipes with their properties and characteristics.
* Measuring and calibrating water mains.
* Ability to distinguish between existing pipe materials and joints.
* Contingency plans and their requirements.
* Temporary works design for pressure testing.
* Thrust block requirements and design.
* Discharge licences including flow rates.
* 3‑stage DENSO process for buried flanged joints.
* Correct choice of pipe‑cutting equipment.Reinstating valves, hydrants, and other water network equipment.
* Importance of bolt torque and recording documentation.
Key Measures and Targets
* Safely carry out tasks set by the site management team or ganger if part of a gang.
Key Relationships
* Foreman / General Foreman.
* Site Manager.
* Site operatives.
* Operations Manager.
About you
* EUSR joint material by butt fusion processes (EUSMUNC11).
* EUSR joint material by electrofusion processes (EUSMUN10).
* Flanged installation training (Control Point).
* Pipeline commissioning (including pressure testing and chlorination/dechlorination).
* Training in pipe cutting equipment – Powergrit Saw, Keel Cutter, Cold Cutter, Clam Shell (Spit Cutter).
* Abrasive wheel training.
Desirable
* EUSR National Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card).
* EUSR Utility SHEA (Water) network process and sewerage network.
* Training in use of Prodrill 20 + 26 to drill water mains.
* Confined spaces (CP1).
* Asbestos awareness.
* Willing to travel and have a driving licence.
