Overview
As our Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the Senior Mechanical Engineers in designing and delivering value-driven mechanical engineering solutions that adhere to water quality standards, reduce carbon, enhance natural capital, and address the challenges of climate change.
Key Responsibilities
* Strategic Leadership: Foster innovative ways of working to achieve sustainable outcomes, and act as the mechanical engineering authority for the @one Alliance, providing guidance on quality and compliance.
* Discipline Management: Develop procedures, standards, and guidance to achieve a "right-first-time" philosophy; support the mechanical design team with resources and methods; provide direction on design methods and assets; collaborate with suppliers to ensure competency and performance; manage supplier frameworks; identify and approve standard products for delivery efficiency.
* Project Delivery: Identify value-driven solutions at Stage 1; conduct audits to ensure quality and specifications; lead resolution of non-compliance issues and capability gaps; provide expert direction for complex design challenges and stakeholder engagement.
* Health & Safety: Drive excellence in CDM compliance; conduct audits on mechanical safety standards (e.g., HAZOP, DSEAR) and lead improvements; ensure regulatory alignment for mechanical assets in water projects.
* People & Team Development: Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and career guidance; champion professional development and foster an inclusive, respectful environment.
* Transformation & Innovation: Promote a culture of experimentation, safe failure, and continuous improvement; lead the introduction of new technologies to improve performance and sustainability.
About You
You should have a strong background in mechanical engineering (preferably in water treatment or similar industries), proven leadership experience, and the ability to inspire teams and drive innovation. A deep understanding of sustainability principles, including reducing carbon and protecting natural capital, and excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential. A passion for mentoring and professional development is also important.
