Main duties and responsibilities
You will play a key role within the SBU(s) providing support on research related financial issues, supporting the PVC of Research, Research Department Heads and other senior managers with a comprehensive, research intensive, professional financial management service. You will provide management of research projects from award through interim reporting, external audit and receipt of final payment within strict deadlines and ensuring compliance with external funding body rules. You will line manage a team of two staff, a research management accountant, and an assistant management accountant. Skills and experience required You will have experience of working in a financial management role, with previous experience in the use of accounting packages in large organisations and proven staff management experience. You will have excellent IT skills (including advanced Excel) with excellent analytical skills with the ability to produce easily understood management information and strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply technical knowledge in a practical business environment. It is essential that you have proven and demonstrable technical skills, including project accounting, budgetary control and financial planning and proven time management and organisation skills with the ability to manage competing priorities successfully ensuring reporting deadlines are met, whilst also responding in a timely manner to ad-hoc queries.
