Mechanical Engineer — Water Industry (Design)
Overview:
A leading water sector consultancy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver mechanical design solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will work across concept, outline, and detailed design stages for critical water infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
* Produce concept, outline, and detailed mechanical designs for pumping systems, treatment equipment, pipework, valves, and rotating machinery.
* Prepare detailed design calculations for pumps, flow/pressure, energy efficiency, and mechanical sizing.
* Develop P&IDs, mechanical GA drawings, equipment schedules, and technical specifications.
* Carry out pipework stress analysis, materials selection, and constructability assessments.
* Review and coordinate 3D models, ensuring alignment with civil, electrical, and process design elements.
* Undertake site surveys, condition assessments, and produce design reports with recommendations.
* Support FAT/SAT, procurement specifications, and technical evaluation during tender stages.
* Ensure compliant designs against water industry standards, CDM, PED/Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, and relevant mechanical codes.
About You:
* Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
* Mechanical design experience in water/wastewater or process plant environments.
* Strong understanding of pumps, process equipment, pipework systems, and treatment infrastructure.
* Able to produce design calculations, reports, and coordinated multi-disciplinary design packages.
