Nursing Assistant

An exciting position has become available for a Band 3 Nursing Assistant to work on our Oncology Day Unit at Alnwick and Berwick Infirmary. The role involves working alongside our team of nurses and our Ward Manager to provide assistance and support to patients, carers and multidisciplinary team to deliver a high‑quality service. The role will involve daily phlebotomy, basic patient assessment and general housekeeping duties to help with the smooth daily running of the ward.
The base site is negotiable, but travel between the two sites would be expected.

Job responsibilities
* Accurately record all patient observations and blood sugar levels.
* Perform venepuncture and cannulation.
* Use Trust Systems such as Chemocare and ICE.
* Assist in pre‑assessments for patients starting SACT.
* Complete vascular access referrals.
* Promote health within the ward setting and prepare clinical areas for procedures (e.g., aseptic technique).
* Demonstrate safe manual handling of patients.
* Assist in ensuring a clean, safe and pleasant ward environment.
* Adhere to trust policies.
* Utilise trust resources effectively.
* Contribute to the induction of healthcare assistants and share knowledge and skills with all new members of staff, including students.
* Complete staff surveys.
* Take personal responsibility for achieving agreed objectives through the appraisal process.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Level 3 qualification in a healthcare‑related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Completion of a competency‑based programme or equivalent relevant experience.
* Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation.
Experience
* Previous care experience in a health or social care setting.
Skills
* Evidence of completed competencies aligned to the service area.
