Mechanical Engineer - Manufacturing Control
Due to project growth, we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our technical team within Manufacturing Control, playing an integral role in our UK nuclear projects. The position sits within the Design & Delivery function, with a focus on controlling and overseeing areas such as welding and heat treatment, surface preparation, and corrosion protection.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer will include:
* Accountable for issuing Surveillance Offers (project-specific deliverables outlining the surveillance strategy for equipment manufacturing).
* Conduct overall risk analysis related to manufacturing operations to determine the level and scope of surveillance required.
* Define and prescribe the surveillance documentation required from manufacturers, ensuring it aligns with project and regulatory expectations.
* Review manufacturing documentation provided by suppliers, including:
+ Before manufacturing: technical specifications, fabrication and testing procedures, welding packages, etc.
+ During manufacturing: exemption requests, non-conformance reports (NCRs), technical queries (TQs), and other quality-related records.
* Contribute to the final assessment of equipment surveillance activities by preparing or inputting into Clearance Notes.
* Participate in manufacturing kick-off meetings to align expectations and define surveillance scope with suppliers.
* Support knowledge sharing by contributing to the capture and dissemination of manufacturing OPEX (operational experience/lessons learned).
* Provide ongoing technical support to inspectors, both onsite and remotely, to ensure consistent quality oversight and resolution of technical issues.
The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in Vulcain's Design & Delivery team and will directly support a variety of high-profile, high-value nuclear new build projects, offering a unique opportunity to grow your career on some of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes in decades.
Preferred Profile
* A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or another relevant discipline.
* Quality Control (QC) experience, ideally within highly regulated or technical environments.
* A solid understanding of welding and fabrication, including experience reviewing welding documentation.
* Experience with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and knowledge of Radiographic Testing would be a strong advantage.
* Familiarity with design processes or an understanding of design principles.
* Experience working with pressure equipment or other complex mechanical systems.
* An indefinite and independent right to work in the UK, due to the level of security clearance required for work on UK nuclear sites.
At Vulcain Engineering, we offer more than just a job, we offer a rewarding career with endless opportunities for growth and development. You'll be part of a talented team of professionals working on exciting and meaningful projects and making a real impact to the nuclear industry.
We offer a dynamic and collaborative work environment where your talents are valued, and your contributions are recognised.
