Job Overview
Junior Fellow in Major Trauma at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. You will provide medical support to major trauma patients on the Major Trauma Unit (MTU) and work alongside consultants, senior fellows, advanced clinical practitioners and nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Day to day clinical management of major trauma patients including ward rounds, primary secondary and tertiary surveys and ongoing management of polytrauma.
* Support organisation of smooth repatriations to local trauma units and further afield MTCs, completing all paperwork.
* Clerk new admissions, advise and see emergency cases being referred to the department from various areas.
* Provide ward doctor cover on the MTU, being the first point of contact for MTU staff for emergency and routine jobs and for escalation of concerns for Major Trauma patients.
* Routine ward rounds alongside the duty consultant for the week, the MT senior fellow and the MTACP seeing new admissions.
* Self‑development and clinical training days, including portfolio work, theatre, clinic or audits.
* Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, liaison with all health professionals involved in a patient’s care and good communication with patients and carers.
* Administrative tasks related to patient care and departmental management, participation fully in the Clinical Governance activity of the service.
Qualifications and Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Completion of FY1/FY2 rotation or equivalent.
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
* NHS experience.
Desirable
* FRCA / MRCP / MRCS / MCEM or equivalent.
