We are pleased to invite you to apply for the post of Senior Theatre Practitioner within the Ophthalmology Department, UHDB. Applicants should be Operating Department Practitioners or Registered nurses.
The eye theatre suite is comprised of three operating theatres, a recovery area and an outpatient ward within a day‑case setting, offering all aspects of eye surgery including ocular plastics, cataracts, glaucoma, corneal and vitreo‑retinal procedures for both adults and paediatrics, as well as emergency and elective work.
Additional services include acute and chronic pain management and day‑case dermatology surgeries.
Responsibilities
* Work clinically as a lead member of the team in partnership with the Theatre Coordinator to provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for the theatre team.
* Organise theatre lists on a day‑to‑day basis, acting as team leader, managing surgical equipment, staffing within theatre and liaising with the theatre co‑ordinator.
* Proactively coordinate elective lists and emergency cases in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team to create a continuous patient pathway.
* Demonstrate enthusiastic leadership skills and act as a Line Manager when required.
* Maintain professional and essential development within the scope of your individual appraisal and according to service needs.
* Support and mentor learners as appropriate.
Skills & Qualifications
* Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse qualification.
* Ability to confidently assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
* Capacity to work well within a team and to act as a Line Manager.
* Physical ability to work and support others.
