Job Purpose:

A qualified Quality Engineer with experience of developing and implementing quality and business improvements to maximise production, profitability, and customer service within an Aerospace manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have good commercial awareness and excellent communication skills, with the ability to develop business relationships to promote growth within the company whilst maintaining quality standards. The role requires an initiative-taking individual who is able to work without supervision and can make effective decisions to minimise quality-related problems.

Role Purpose

To manage and maintain all company and customer-owned tooling, ensuring it is serviceable, compliant and available to support production, whilst also supporting product verification activities through inspection and quality control.

The role ensures tooling is controlled, calibrated where required and fit for purpose, and that product inspections are carried out in line with company and customer requirements.

Role Summary

The QI & Tooling Engineer is responsible for the control, maintenance, calibration and repair of all tooling, alongside supporting inspection activities within the manufacturing environment.

The role includes performing product inspections, verifying conformity to specifications, and ensuring that tooling used in production is maintained in a controlled condition. The position supports both operational delivery and product quality by combining tooling management with hands-on inspection capability.

Key Responsibilities – Tooling

1. Maintain full control of all tooling including:
2. Teledyne-owned tooling
3. Customer-owned tooling
4. Ensure all tooling is:
5. uniquely identified
6. correctly stored
7. protected from damage or deterioration
8. Manage the tooling register, ensuring accurate records of:
9. tooling status
10. location
11. condition
12. ownership
13. Define and manage calibration and verification requirements
14. Ensure tooling requiring calibration is:
15. included within the calibration system
16. within valid calibration status
17. Coordinate tooling:
18. inspection
19. maintenance
20. repair
21. replacement
22. Remove defective tooling from service and control to prevent use

Key Responsibilities – Inspection / Quality

23. Perform inspection activities including:
24. in-process inspection
25. final inspection
26. incoming inspection where required
27. Verify product conformity against:
28. drawings
29. specifications
30. work instructions
31. Record inspection results in line with company requirements
32. Raise non-conformances (NCRs) where product does not meet requirements
33. Support:
34. MRB / concession processes
35. root cause investigations
36. corrective actions
37. Ensure compliance with:
38. AS9100
39. customer requirements (Airbus, GKN, etc.)

Operational Responsibilities

40. Support production teams with:
41. tooling issues
42. inspection queries
43. product conformity concerns
44. Ensure tooling availability aligns with production demand
45. Identify and escalate risks relating to:
46. tooling condition
47. inspection capacity
48. product quality
49. Support introduction of new tooling and processes

Compliance & Control

50. Ensure tooling control meets:
51. AS9100 requirements
52. calibration system requirements
53. customer-specific requirements
54. Ensure inspection activities are:
55. traceable
56. recorded
57. compliant with defined requirements
58. Maintain control of customer-owned tooling in line with contractual obligations

Continuous Improvement
