Job overview
The purpose of this post is to identify and train doctors to be clinical teachers. It is aimed at applicants looking for posts at ST1-2/ST3+ equivalent. This is a challenging post that will test skills that are not the focus of most clinical training roles yet are highly relevant and transferable to senior clinical roles. This post will encompass more than just teaching and will commence from August 2025.
Main duties of the job
* Teaching medical students in various clinical settings such as wards, ITU, theatre, clinics, or assessment units
* Teaching in non-clinical settings such as seminar rooms, clinical skills labs, and lecture theatres
* Providing clinical and communication skills teaching across the entire course, in liaison with the clinical skills lead and staff
* Teaching both Year 4 and Year 5 students
* Supporting and organizing clinical skills training
* Supporting and organizing the critical care programme
* Delivering classroom and seminar-based teaching
* Coordinating medical student activities, liaising with clinical teachers, the practice educator team, and secretariat
* Evaluating aspects of curriculum and its delivery
* Participating in student assessments such as mini-CEX, DOPs, case-based discussions, and OSCE examinations
* Completing formal study in medical education
* Maintaining clinical skills
* Being fully involved in the weekly teaching programme for Year 5 students
* Covering bedside teaching for tutors if required

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, located about 20 minutes apart. Together, they provide 99% of our activity, offering a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatient services, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care.
