We are hiring skilled colleagues for our transitions program at our Wakefield, MA day program, serving individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges. Candidates should be familiar with clinical treatment plans, therapeutic curricula, group facilitation, and physical management of aggressive behaviors.
The program emphasizes positive behavioral supports and aims to promote independence and coping skills. It collaborates closely with administrative and clinical staff to achieve positive outcomes.
Basic Function
The Developmental Specialist handles daily program activities, including programming, community engagement, data collection, record keeping, and personal care for Guests. The role incorporates the WOW! Principles into all work aspects.
Specific Duties
* Collaborate with the ISP Team to establish goals for Guests.
* Implement clinically sound Support Plans with management and clinical teams.
* Calmly and safely execute behavior management strategies, including physical interventions when necessary.
* Write detailed incident reports and support debriefings post-behavioral events.
* Support community outings and address behavioral needs in diverse settings.
* Record data accurately to monitor progress and ensure adherence to standards.
* Lead program groups using curriculum, Google Classroom, and hands-on instruction, adjusting approaches as needed.
* Maintain a clean environment and collaborate with case managers and clinicians to support goals.
* Assist Guests physically during transitions and personal care routines, including toileting, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
* Teach and reinforce skills to enhance independence and achieve ISP goals.
* Observe and report on Guests’ behavior and performance regularly.

Skills Needed/Essential Functions
* Strong organizational and communication skills.
* Knowledge of mandated record-keeping paperwork.
* Uphold high ethical standards and confidentiality.
* Effective interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
* Positive promotion of Guests and the organization’s image.
* Complete required training, including Positive Behavioral Supports, PABC, Trauma-Informed Care, Medication Administration, FA/CPR.
* Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle with insurance, and background checks.
Physical and Emotional Effort
Frequent walking, standing, driving, lifting 40-50 pounds, and responding to emergencies with First Aid/CPR are required. The environment can be hectic and stressful; calm, analytical responses are necessary.
Education and Experience
Minimum HS diploma; certifications preferred but flexible based on experience. At least two years in the developmental disabilities field, with experience in managing challenging behaviors.
