We are seeking a dedicated Engineer - Mech/Steam/HTHW to join our team at HMP Swaleside, a Cat B Mens prison. We are a Ministry Of Justice business providing critical and time-bound services to HMPPS, with a focus on safety, rehabilitation and positive change. You will work within the Facilities Maintenance Team, contributing to the safe and secure operation of the site.

Note: GFSL’s provision of FM services is anticipated to transfer to a private sector provider(s) in Autumn 2026 following a procurement process.
Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain mechanical, steam and heating systems within a prison environment in line with regulatory requirements.
* Work with a multi-disciplinary team (Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, Administrators) to ensure safe and secure operations.
* Ensure compliance with Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements and BG01 - safe operation of boilers.
* Maintain good Health & Safety practices and demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills.
Qualifications
* Two years' experience in a role as a steam boiler operator or equivalent.
* Familiarity with Water Supply Regulation and Legionella L8 requirements; BG01 knowledge.
* Experience working on commercial or industrial steam, heating and water systems.
* Plumber qualifications to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent.
* BOAS accredited boiler operator course or equivalent.
* Good Health & Safety knowledge; excellent organisational and people skills.
