Applications are invited for the above research position to join the Power Electronics, Machines and Drives Research Group at the University of Nottingham. The PEMC group has over 150 members, including 18 academics and approximately 120 PhD students and post‑doctoral research fellows. The group has excellent facilities for experimental work, including approximately 2500 m² of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 5 MW.
The successful candidate will conduct research in innovative electric propulsion systems for future de‑carbonised, green aircraft and will support delivery of one of our new flagship EU‑funded projects. In particular, the role holder will work in the areas of design, modelling and simulation, optimisation, development and laboratory testing of future aircraft electric propulsion drive systems.
* Strong understanding of power electronics principles
* Excellent knowledge of data‑driven machine learning algorithms and experience using these algorithms for electrical engineering problems
* Excellent knowledge of control and optimisation algorithms with implementation to power electronics design experience
Good research methodology, communication skills and the ability to work in a team are essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to liaise with industrial partners, prepare and present reports and disseminate results of their work through academic publications and presentations.
This is a full‑time post and will be offered on an initial fixed‑term contract for a period of 12 months.
