About this Role
We are looking for an entry to mid-level Case Evaluation Economist to join our business development team.
Our business development team is responsible for conducting early-stage economic analysis of anticompetitive conduct. Our ability to support law firms globally in the crucial case development phase differentiates Fideres from all other economic consultancies.
Our ability to deal with complex datasets, limited information, and span across all major sectors of the economy make this role attractive to those seeking purpose-driven employment that combines strong analytical skills with creativity.
Key Responsibilities
Some notable responsibilities include:
* Analyze anticompetitive corporate conduct, including assessing theories of harm, market definition, and developing preliminary damages models.
* Conduct detailed statistical analysis of market manipulation allegations as part of Fideres’ expert consulting mandates.
* Produce clear and concise reports summarizing the key findings of the analysis.
* Verbally present key findings to clients in a manner that allows them to understand both the results and their implications.
* Write periodic blogs exploring new and developing competition economic themes.
* Respond to client requests in a timely and helpful fashion.
* Depending on experience, mentor new analysts on report writing and presentations.
* Maintain accurate records of all billable hours spent on each project.
Key Skills and Attributes
The successful candidate will have:
* MSc in Economics or an equivalent qualification (Undergraduate degree in Economics considered)
* Passion for competition policy and market regulation, with a strong desire to address corporate misconduct and correct market distortions
* Some work experience in an economic consultancy or at a regulator (for more experienced applicants)
* Knowledge of key competition economics topics
* The ability to write insightful reports and express complex issues in simple, understandable terms for non-specialists
* Strong analytical skills, able to identify core issues in complex problems
* Proficiency in R required; some knowledge of Python preferred
* Experience with web-scraping is useful
* Integrity, curiosity, and creativity
* Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Bloomberg
* Initiative and continuous process improvement mindset
* Responsiveness to client needs and solution-oriented approach
* Focus on delivery and project completion
* Confidence to express opinions and propose new solutions
