No experience needed.
We’re looking for an empathetic and commercially minded person to join the Co-op Funeralcare team.
You don’t need industry experience. If you have great people skills and a real commercial focus, you could be perfect for this role. At Co-op Funeralcare, we provide a caring and compassionate service when families need it most. As a funeral director, you’ll be at the heart of that service, balancing managerial and business tasks, and building trusting relationships with clients. Join us today to be part of something meaningful.
What you’ll do
* Ensure client needs, service levels, and KPIs are met.
* Be the main point of contact for clients, supporting and guiding them with the help of the wider team.
* Support funerals—conduct ceremonies, lead the team, and carry the deceased when necessary.
* Refer all regulated work, including funeral planning appointments, to a certified colleague.
* Build and maintain relationships with the team, clients, and the community.
This role would suit people who have
* A commercial mindset and managerial experience.
* A true customer focus and passion for delivering excellent service.
* The ability to capture intricate details and ensure they are reflected in the service.
* Compassion, understanding, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
* A UK manual driving licence.
Why Co-op?
You’ll receive a benefits package including:
* 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores all year-round.
* 10% off other brands in our food stores.
* Discounts on other Co-op products and services.
* 23 days holidays (pro-rata, increasing with service).
* A pension with up to 10% employer contributions.
* Access to our Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support 24/7.
* Virtual GP services and free eye tests.
* Career development opportunities, including apprenticeships.
* A friendly and supportive team environment.
* Access to Wagestream for early pay access.
At Co-op, we’re proud to do things differently. As a large cooperative owned by millions, community is central to our mission. Since 1844, we’ve aimed to build a fairer world for members, customers, colleagues, and communities.
Building an inclusive work environment
We actively promote diversity and welcome applications from everyone. We aim for our teams to reflect the communities we serve. We can make reasonable adjustments for applicants with disabilities and are part of the Disability Confident scheme. When applying, you’ll be asked if you wish to be considered under this scheme.
If invited to participate in our recruitment process, please let us know if you need any adjustments. More information is available at jobs.coop.co.uk/apply-process.
Further details about our diversity and inclusion commitments are available at jobs.coop.co.uk/diversity-inclusion-wellbeing.
As part of your application, you’ll need to complete an online assessment, which takes about 20 minutes.
If successful, background checks including DBS, media checks, and an occupational health questionnaire will be conducted. We will also review your social media activity. Any employment offer will be conditional upon these checks.
