Starting salary is £26,475 for successful applicants. The Probation Service offers annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF), enabling salary increases as competence develops. Pay bands are also reviewed annually in line with Civil Service Pay guidance.
About The Role
Probation Service Officers help make a real difference to people's lives. The role involves managing caseloads of offenders, assessing and managing risks, providing information to courts, and working closely with justice agencies. The role is challenging but rewarding, especially for empathetic, patient, and resilient individuals.
You will work with medium and lower risk clients, supporting offenders through various stages of their rehabilitation. The role includes providing practical advice, listening, and supporting offenders in their journey to reintegration.
About You
No degree is required. Personal qualities such as empathy, patience, resilience, and good report-writing skills are essential. Experience working with individuals facing social or personal difficulties is preferred.

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
* Manage offenders assessed as low or medium risk, supporting high-risk cases alongside Probation Officers.
* Contribute to risk management plans and report significant changes.
* Use computer systems to maintain records and documentation.
* Refer offenders to services, coordinate with agencies, and review progress.
* Conduct visits to prisons, homes, or other locations.
* Complete reports and manage breaches in court settings.
* Deliver and co-lead accredited programmes.
* Conduct mandatory alcohol and drug tests, follow medication procedures.
* Perform safeguarding duties and demonstrate pro-social modelling.
* Adhere to policies on confidentiality, equality, and inclusion.
