We are looking for an experienced Operating Department Practitioner who is HCPCRegistered.

Job responsibilities
To provide competent and skilled surgical assistance under the supervision of the operating surgeon. To provide skilled and advanced surgical scrub practice for General Surgery. The postholder will demonstrate a competent level of knowledge in accordance with professional guidelines and the scope of the role.
Provide competent and skilled assistance in all aspects of surgery under the supervision of the surgeon.
Undertaking duties such as (not exhaustive)
Skin preparation and draping.
Handling of instruments and cameras (laparoscopic work).
Use of suction as guided by the surgeon.
Use of specialised surgical equipment.
Provide assistance to the surgeon or anaesthetist as required.
Understand advanced surgical techniques and make professional and clinical decisions for which the First Surgical Assistant is accountable.
Have advanced knowledge of current elective and emergency surgical techniques and equipment required to achieve the optimal outcomes in surgery.
Ensure detailed understanding of the principles of surgical techniques required.

Person Specification
Experience
* Awareness of current professional nursing issues in the theatre environment.
* Extensive clinical experience as a scrub practitioner.
* Understanding of trust-wide strategic objectives.
* Clinical Governance.
* Knowledge of ethical issues.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Effective interpersonal skills.

Qualifications
* RGN/ODP registered with the NMC or HCPC.
* Diploma and evidence of strong commitment to professional education and development.
* Evidence of recent post-registration education or equivalent experience.
* NASP extended skills of the advanced scrub practitioner.
