A member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Knowledge of land use, agriculture, asset and land management, environmental issues, conservation and sustainable development. Demonstrable ability to analyse and resolve rural surveying problems by implementing practical, workable solutions. Good influencing, negotiating and communication skills. Ability to interpret and respond to external and internal research, intelligence and analysis. Ability to identify opportunities and deliver solutions within tight timescales and budget constraints. Good project management skills, with the ability to manage projects of limited complexity and build collaborative relationships with tenants, external professionals, General Managers and Consultancy staff. Rural SurveyorYou’ll join a collaborative and supportive team where people, places, and purpose are closely connected. You’ll work across a broad range of rural estates, partnering with colleagues, tenants, and external stakeholders to care for land, heritage, and communities. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement, you’ll be part of a team focused on delivering meaningful outcomes and creating a lasting legacy for future generations. This role covers the London and Surrey regions, and your contractual place of work will be Polesden Lacey. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.You’ll provide professional advice and support on a variety of rural surveying matters, including lettings, acquisitions, disposals, and land management. You’ll undertake negotiations, support dispute resolution, and contribute to the management and optimisation of rural assets. Working alongside senior colleagues, you’ll carry out due diligence, assess opportunities, and help deliver projects that align with organisational objectives. You’ll also build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, tenants, and external partners, ensuring effective collaboration and high-quality service delivery. You'll be trusted to manage your work professionally and independently, working within a team‑led environment where priorities are driven by business needs - so the role requires flexibility, responsiveness and strong collaboration as well as independence.
