Our client is a top 100, well-established City law firm with a strong reputation across a broad range of practice areas. With continued growth and a collaborative culture, the firm places a strong emphasis on effective risk management and regulatory compliance. The firm is now seeking to appoint a Risk & Compliance Lawyer to join its Risk & Compliance team.
The Opportunity
This is a permanent role within the Risk & Compliance function, offering firm-wide exposure to a broad range of regulatory and risk matters. Working closely with the Risk & Compliance Director (COLP), the Risk & Compliance Lawyer will play a key role in supporting Partners, fee earners, and business services teams on day-to-day risk and compliance issues. Key responsibilities include:
* Providing front-line advice on legal and regulatory risk matters
* Advising on SRA Principles, Code of Conduct, and professional ethics
* Supporting complaints handling and COLP responsibilities
* Assisting with professional indemnity insurance matters
* Drafting, reviewing, and maintaining risk and compliance policies and registers
* Supporting internal and external risk and compliance audits
* Maintaining external accreditations (e.g. Lexcel, CQS)
* Delivering compliance training and supporting new joiner inductions
* Monitoring regulatory developments and updating policies accordingly
* Supporting data protection enquiries and breach management
* Managing SRA records and practising certificate renewals
* Reviewing and advising on engagement terms and commercial contracts
* Deputising for the Risk & Compliance Director as required
* Supporting firm-wide risk and compliance projects
* Undertaking ad hoc duties as required
Requirements
* Qualified solicitor with experience in risk and compliance within a law firm, or significant exposure in a fee-earning role (5+ PQE)
* Strong knowledge of SRA Principles and Code of Conduct
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Highly organised with strong attention to detail
* Able to manage workload independently in a fast-paced environment
