Job Summary
A vacancy has arisen within the Treatment Room for an enthusiastic and flexible HCA (Healthcare Assistant) to work alongside and support the nursing team and other clinical staff within our large but friendly surgery. The role will be based mainly at BCHC but may involve work at our branch surgery on Bridge Street. The successful candidate will also need to be able to drive as the role will involve some home phlebotomy and occasional Saturday working.
Responsibilities
* Provide quality care to patients in the Treatment Room.
* Assist the nursing team and other clinicians within the surgery.
* Carry out clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, NHS health checks, ECG recordings, complex wound assistance, urinalysis, blood pressure, weight measurements, and injections (B12, Pneumonia, Shingles).
* Support home phlebotomy duties.
* Maintain clinical supplies, order stocks, and ensure the department is clean and tidy to reduce cross‑infection risk.
* Preserve patient safety by recognising when to refer patients back to a registered clinician.
Clinical Duties
* Phlebotomy (home phlebotomy)
* NHS health checks and diabetes health checks
* ECG recordings
* Assisting with complex wounds
* Urinalysis
* Blood pressure and weight measurements
* Administration of injections (B12, Pneumonia and Shingles)
* Diabetes health checks and doppler studies
Non‑Clinical Duties
* Maintain and stock clinical rooms including GP rooms.
* Order and store stocks in an organised way.
* Adhere to health and safety regulations, clean and tidy the department, and safely dispose of clinical waste.
* Rotate and record fridge temperatures.
Other Duties
* Maintain clear and accurate records in line with practice policy.
* Attend staff meetings.
* Always preserve confidentiality.
* Co‑operate with any research projects that may be taking place at the surgery.

* Use personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
* Identify the risks involved in work activities and undertake such activities in a way that manages those risks.
* Make effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
* Use appropriate infection control procedures, maintain work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.

Qualifications
* Satisfactory general education and evidence of additional training relevant to the role, including the Care Certificate.
