Help grow online donations and partnerships for a successful small charity giving free education to children from poor families in Sierra Leone.
What difference will you make?
Many of our loyal supporters are older, and we need to connect with a new, digitally engaged audience to sustain our future. You’ll play a key role in developing online fundraising and donor engagement strategies that create a steady, reliable income stream.
Your involvement will directly benefit pupils and staff for many years to come. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a child progress from age 11 to 18, graduate, and begin working or attending further education — breaking the cycle of poverty for their family.
Your creativity and digital skills will help shape how we share these stories online, inspire new supporters, and show the real impact of every donation. For example, just £20 per month covers a pupil’s education, uniform, exam fees, and daily meals for a year.
What are we looking for?
Our goal is vital — to secure recurring income so that the school can continue offering free education to future generations in Oba Funkia. We need someone who can connect with people around the world, tell Extra Mile’s story, and inspire lasting partnerships.
We’re looking for someone who can
* Develop fundraising campaigns using digital tools and social media
* Research and apply for grants and funding opportunities
* Build and maintain relationships with business sponsors and donors
* Create engaging online content (stories, photos, short videos, updates)
* Use or advise on tools such as Canva, Meta Business Suite, Mailchimp, or JustGiving
* Track engagement and suggest improvements based on analytics
Experience in fundraising, marketing, or communications is ideal, but enthusiasm, creativity, and initiative are just as valuable.
What will you be doing?
Extra Mile provides free education to 185 children from very poor families in the village of Oba Funkia, Sierra Leone. Since 2009, we’ve been transforming lives by giving children access to learning, meals, and a future full of hope. In 2016, we reached a huge milestone — opening our own school and expanding our educational reach.
We’re now looking for a creative volunteer to help secure the school’s future by expanding our fundraising reach, both online and offline. You’ll help grow awareness and donations through digital campaigns, social media storytelling, business partnerships, and grant applications.
As an expert in your craft, you’ll work autonomously, with support from a small and dedicated group of trustees. Our UK and Sierra Leone boards meet online every few months, and we operate with minimal admin costs so that nearly every pound raised goes directly to the school.
