About the Role
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join a team of ten existing consultants. The consultant will work across the Trust’s three main hospital sites – North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham – and the surrounding community network covering North Tyneside, Wansbeck, NSECH, Central/South Northumberland, West Northumberland and North Northumberland.
Responsibilities
* Provide an integrated palliative care service across community, inpatient and hospital settings in line with the negotiated job plan.
* Deliver cover for service gaps, including holiday, sickness, maternity or vacancies.
* Attend and host regional meetings, including the Northern Regional Palliative Care Physicians' Group.
* Participate in senior clinical leadership discussions within the Trust.
* Engage in educational activities, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as part of the Northern region Specialty Training programme.
Contract and Working Hours
The post is a fixed‑term contract of one year, 0.6 WTE with on‑call support. An on‑call supplement at 2% is provided. The post includes 0.8 PAs, which are allocated for weekend cover on a 1:8 basis. If desired, an additional 2.5 PAs of palliative care unit inpatient work can be added to an existing part‑time job plan.
